Hi – Charles Smith here…

Started chubby young then got a bit fatter, then pretty big, then decided to change.
It never felt like Christopher McDougall’s book ‘Born to run’ was written about me, certainly didn’t feel like that growing up in the UK during the 80’s and 90’s but now I have a passion for running, and running long distance.
As a trained Design Engineer I have worked at all sorts of high tech places like Dyson, IBM, BAE Systems and many more – I am an unashamed tech person, I love knowing the facts, the numbers with the gadgets. But alongside this I am learning to understand more of what it means to be human and our most basic and often misunderstood skill – running.
In this site I am to convey many aspects of my adventure in running from the practical, the philosophical and hopefully along the way inspirational.
I am not a self centred person, I dislike the vacuous look at me society and I don’t give people the impression that things are easy when they aren’t…
I don’t run long distance without injuries – I have had more blisters than I can think of – my knees hurts – legs give out – I get grumpy when I am shattered rather than flying through every photo op looking like I just started – I sweat – I get exhausted, – I don’t plan my runs so I can take a picture…
I am a real guy, loving the challenge, finding the magic in pushing through all the negatives and slowly but surely realising that maybe I was born to run after all…
